Here, my friend Jon stares out to sea as a tanker glides out into the Pacific. I remember standing there that winter day remarking that this slice of Stanley Park with its abundant greenery and overlooking English Bay felt a lot like Hawaii.

During this trip, Vancouver was experiencing what turned out to be the sunniest February in the city's 120-year history.
