California Lighthouse

California Lighthouse was my first stop on a whirlwind Jeep tour around Aruba. This lighthouse is most famous (or rather, infamous) for being one of the last places Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway was believed to have gone before vanishing in May 2005.

The lighthouse is so tall, and the island so flat, that it can be seen from everywhere. Its location, high on a bluff looking across the open ocean to Venezuela, some 16 miles to the south, is amazing. The sweeping views across the Caribbean Sea and across the island were amazing.
